The Mandela Effect
The Mandela Effect- What is it? How does it happen? To whom does it happen to? When does it happen? These are all questions that surround the strange phenomenon known as the 'Mandela Effect'. The Mandela Effect got it's name in 2009 from Fiona Broome, A self proclaimed, Paranormal Consultant. The reason for this being that Fiona, amongst many others, remember the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela dying in the 1980's while being held captive in a South African prison. Although Mandela was actually released and lived until 2013. Many others remember the news coverage surrounding his death, down to the speech his widow gave.
All these people share this same memory yet none of it happened. The scientific term for this is " Collective false memory" This happens when a large group of people remember something happening that in fact, did not.
Another explanation is Confabulation , This is when a person creates a false memory 'A Lie' without the intent of lying or misconstrued facts. Confabulation is how any Doctor would describe the Mandela Effect.
Some also believe that the Mandela Effect is the result of multiple universes and dimensions. Some even speculate Time travel. Others claim it to be the results from another phenomenon known as the Butterfly Effect. There are tons of examples of The Mandela Effect. Here are just a few-
1) Star Wars- In ' Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' Most believe the line goes " Luke, I am your father" When the line actually goes " I am your father" The name "luke" is not part of the script
3) Oscar Meyer VS Oscar Mayar- If you thought it was, Oscar Meyer then you've been living your whole life a lie. Seriously though, all dramatics aside, the correct spelling is "Oscar Mayer"
4) Fruit Loops VS Froot Loops- Cereal is a commonly known breakfast food and a staple to the American Breakfast. One particular Cereal is a bit of a controversie, that being Froot Loops. Some swear they remember it being "Fruit Loops" not "Froot Loops"
5) Monopoly Man- Monopoly is a game I think we all can remember playing growing up. Who could forget the game where the loser snaps and flips the game bored sending game pieces hurling in every direction? It is inevitably burned into our memories (no pun intended) For-Ev-ER but one thing some remember is the Monopoly Man (rich uncle money bags) having a monacle. He however, does not.
6) Cheez-It VS Cheez-Itz- One of my guilty pleasures are Delicious Artificially Cheddar Cheese Colored, crisp baked snack crackers which I have always known as "Cheez-itz" Wayyylll, I was wrong and so were you. It is just Cheez-It. Whoops.
7) Forrest Gump- Forrest Gump. Hands down, favorite movie of all time. I used to think I could quote that movie word-for-word, for days. However turns out I haven't been correctly quoting one of the most well know quotes from the movie. When Forrest Gump ( Tom Hanks) Says "Momma always said life is like a box of chocolates" It actually is "momma always said life WAS like a box of chocolates.
8) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs- Another Epic movie from my childhood/adulthood. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we've all mimicked The Evil Witch by saying "Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall" She actually says " Magic Mirror, On the Wall" Mind. Blown.
9) The 50 States- How many U.S. States do you remember learning there are? Although the answer is 50, some people remember learning that there are 51 or even 52 states!!
10) Smokey Bear- Anyone born from the 1940's on remembers the American Forrest Fire Mascot, Created by Albert Staehle,( A popular Illustrator from the 1930's - 1960's) An American Black Bear who wears a ranger hat yielding a shovel and famous saying is 'Only you can prevent forrest fires' Some remember him as ' Smokey the Bear' when in fact his name is just "Smokey Bear"
11) Berenstein Bears VS Berenstain Bears- Last but not least, and perhaps one of the controversial examples of the Mandela Effect is The Berenstain Bears, many swear up and down that the name is 'Berenstein Bears' when it is actually 'Berenstain' You just can't make this stuff up.
Were you shocked by any of these examples? Which one of these did you find the craziest? Any other examples you would like to share? Let us know in the comment section below.
